Hole 1
Par 4 | Yards: 358 | Handicap: 5/5
This is the perfect introduction to Trump National Los Angeles. The guarded green is fronted by two large bunkers on the right and a tricky false front on the left. Tee shots should avoid the large fairway bunker down the left side to leave yourself a comfortable yardage to this well protected green.
Hole 2
Par 5 | Yards: 510 | Handicap: 17/15
On this typically downwind par 5, play your tee shot to the left side of the left-to-right sloping fairway; anything too far right will find the group. A good drive will tempt golfers to go for the green in two. The generous fairway narrows for those laying up or going for the green in two. The wide opening in front of the green invites all approaches.
Hole 3
Par 4 | Yards: 427 | Handicap: 13/9
The tee shot is threatened by two large bunkers on the right and a small bunker to the left. This fairway slopes from left-to-right and tee shots will need to be hit on the left side of the fairway. The green is guarded by four bunkers and two collection areas surrounding the green.
Hole 4
Par 3 | Yards: 171 | Handicap: 15/17
This short but tricky downhill par 3 usually plays into a crosswind. The deep, narrow greens and cavernous bunkers are concerns from the tee. Make sure to hit the proper yardage to prevent from hitting the ball past the green which will result in a penalty. One large bunker wraps around the entire right side of the green while two bunkers guard the left back side of the green.
Hole 5
Par 4 | Yards: 513 | Handicap: 1/7
This long par 4 begins a difficult stretch through the ninth hole known as “Trump’s Corner.” Typically playing into the wind, this hole requires a 240-yard carry from the back tee just to reach the fairway. A demanding approach shot is required to this narrow green due to two large greenside bunkers on both sides of the green.
Hole 6
Par 4 | Yards: 473 | Handicap: 11/1
The fairway bunkers on both sides of the fairway are in play from all but the back tees. Club selection is vital on the approach as the deep green offers a variety of hole locations. The difficult greenside bunkers will come into play on any mis-hit approach shots.
Hole 7
Par 5 | Yards: 578 | Handicap: 9/3
Driver to the left side of this wide, mounded fairway will be the favored tee shot. Be aware that second shots will likely be played from a side-hill lie. Lay up for a full approach; if you go too far, you’ll find the pot bunker. A large greenside bunker on the right will result in a difficult up and down if you find yourself in there. The green, surrounded by bunkers, has a false front that sends short approaches back about 20 yards.
Hole 8
Par 3 | Yards: 235 | Handicap: 7/11
There is no easy way to play this hole. The tee shot that is usually into the wind must carry the lake, fronting the green. Out-of-bounds lurks on the right, but there is a small bailout area short of the green and right of the water. A bunker in the back of the very deep green will stop any long shots.
Hole 9
Par 4 | Yards: 509 | Handicap: 3/13
This long par 4 doglegs slight left. Cutting the corner flirts with the 120-yard long bunker guarding the left side of the hole. Despite the view from the tee, a wide fairway welcomes the drive. The approach must find the green, which is guarded by a lake on the left and by bunkers on the right and in the back of the green.
Hole 10
Par 4 | Yards: 440 | Handicap: 14/10
From all of the tees except for the back tees, this short but tricky hole can be a drivable par 4. Bunkers surround the left side of the hole as well as greenside bunkers protecting the front of the green. This hole usually plays into the wind, resulting in approach shots landing softly.
Hole 11
Par 3 | Yards: 225 | Handicap: 6/16
Club selection is very important when hitting into this narrow green. Tee shots that are short will find bunkers which usually spell bogey or worse. Long tee shots will find the bunkers or out-of-bounds behind the green. A small false front on the right side of the green will funnel into a collection area below the green.
Hole 12
Par 5 | Yards: 530 | Handicap: 12/6
The wide landing area drives right and forward, giving you a chance to reach the green in two. Approaches must avoid the numerous bunkers including a large, hidden bunker in the back that greets long approaches. Reaching the green in regulation, or better, doesn’t guarantee success as you must contend with our most demanding, multi-tiered green.
Hole 13
Par 4 | Yards: 445 | Handicap: 2/2
The intimidating blind tee shot with lateral hazards on both sides of the landing area will require a well placed tee shot. The target line is left of the left greenside bunker. Knowing the day’s pin location on this deep green is critical. Bunkers protect the approach on the right from roughly 90 yards in, while the two others guard the left side behind the green.
Hole 14
Par 5 | Yards: 561 | Handicap: 10/8
This uphill par 5 is lined by deep bunkers on the right side of the hole; find one and only a wedge will get you out. The second shot forces a decision: lay up short of the barranca or fly it and contend with the bunkers on both sides of the hole. The best layups stop short of the sand, leaving a mid-iron approach to a well protected green.
Hole 15
Par 3 | Yards: 175 | Handicap: 16/18
This par 3 features the layout’s smallest green surrounded by a moat-like bunker. The prevailing crosswind makes club selection even more difficult. Long tee shots will fly the sand and reach the hazard and short tee shots will either hit the bunker or hazard, so finding the putting surface is critical.
Hole 16
Par 4 | Yards: 338 | Handicap: 18/14
The shortest par 4 on the course requires a fairway-wood or long-iron tee shot to the widest part of the fairway followed by a short iron or wedge into the green. The three-tiered green runs away from the fairway. This well-protected green is surrounded by bunkers short and long, and a lake to the left.
Hole 17
Par 3 | Yards: 240 | Handicap: 8/12
This challenging par 3 is boarded by bunkers to the left and behind the green and beautiful views of the pacific ocean to the left. The 3 bunkers on the left and 2 large bunkers behind the green frame the putting surface. Tee shots can be rolled up to the green but first must carry the environmental area.
Hole 18
Par 4 | Yards: 512 | Handicap: 4/4
This classically tough but beautiful finishing hole has more bunkers than most. The tee shot target is the farthest right fairway bunker. There is a difference of several clubs between a front or back hole location on this deep, back-to-front sloping green. The long-iron second shot plays into the wind, which will help keep the ball on the putting surface.
